Surfing the waves in Malaga

Its extensive coastline makes Malaga an ideal destination to enjoy surfing, one of the most addictive water sports and one of the favorite activities of the local population.

Here are the best places to glide over the waves on your holidays.

El Chanquete

Located east of Malaga, this beach is one of the local surfers’ favorites. Its westerly and easterly winds turn the waves into an amusement park for lovers of this sport. After a day of surfing, don’t hesitate to stroll around the old fishing quarter that surrounds it: there, you will be able to enjoy a pleasant evening in its beach bars or taste the iconic fried fish (pescaito frito) in front of the Mediterranean Sea.

Benajarafe Beach
Surrounded by beach bars, Benajarafe Beach is a much sought-after destination for local surfers, specifically on those days when the wind is blowing hard: here, the waves are perfect for a surfing day to remember. In addition, you might want to fully enjoy the location’s offerings and explore the various bars that surround it, ideal for ending a good day of waves with some delicious espetos.

Beach of Lagos
This bay is renowned for being an ideal place to practice this sport in any season of the year thanks to its stable climate and moderate swell. End the day with a stroll through the streets of the village of Lagos and immerse yourself in the Andalusian culture.

Los Álamos

Known as the surfing mecca of Andalucía, this bay is filled with surfers just about every day of the year. Surrounded by hundreds of beach bars, this is an ideal spot to mingle with the local surfers or enjoy watching the various kite surfers that put on a show throughout the day.
